What Is Smart Lock Installation?
A smart lock replaces your existing door lock with one you can control using a phone app, keypad code, or fingerprint — no physical key needed for everyday use. Most smart locks fit into your door's existing hardware prep, so no new holes or wiring are required. Some models, like August, are retrofit smart locks that attach to the inside of your existing lock — the outside of your door stays unchanged.
Our locksmith removes your current lock (or prepares it for a retrofit model), installs the smart lock hardware, connects it to your phone or home Wi-Fi, and tests everything on-site. You'll have full access before we leave — including setting up codes, auto-lock schedules, and shared access for family members.
Most installations take 30–60 minutes per door, depending on the lock model and door type.
What our lock change service includes?
Lock removal and smart lock mounting — we swap out your existing hardware and install the new lock
Retrofit setup (if applicable) — for models like August, we attach the smart device to your existing lock without replacing the hardware
Phone app setup and pairing — we connect the lock to your smartphone and walk you through the app
User code programming — set up PIN codes for family members, dog walkers, cleaners, or guests
Wi-Fi or Bluetooth configuration — connect to your home network for remote access and notifications
Compatibility check before scheduling — send us a photo of your door and current lock, and we'll confirm your smart lock will fit before the visit
Should You Get a Smart Lock or Stick With a Traditional Lock?
Tradicional locks:
Physical key required every time
No remote access or activity tracking
No batteries or app needed
Lower upfront cost
Proven, simple technology
Must rekey or replace if keys are lost or shared
Smart locks:
Keyless entry via phone, code, or fingerprint
Share temporary codes with guests — revoke anytime
Auto-lock and remote lock/unlock
Activity log shows who entered and when
Battery-powered (most last 6–12 months)
Requires initial setup and occasional battery changes
Bottom line: Smart locks are ideal if you want keyless convenience, remote access, or the ability to share and revoke codes easily — especially for homeowners who frequently give access to guests, cleaners, or family. If you prefer simplicity and don't need remote features, a quality traditional lock still provides excellent security.

-
You can bring your own smart lock or ask us for recommendations based on your door type and what features matter most to you. If you already have a lock picked out, send us a photo of your door and the lock model before scheduling — we'll confirm compatibility so there are no surprises on install day.
-
Most smart locks are designed to fit standard residential door preps — the same hole pattern as a regular locks. If your door has an unusual thickness, a non-standard bore, or no existing lock cutout, we may need to make adjustments. Send us a photo of your door and current lock before scheduling, and we'll let you know exactly what to expect.
-
Most smart locks use standard batteries (AA or CR123A) that last 6–12 months, and the lock will alert you through the app when the battery is getting low. If the battery dies completely, most models have a physical key backup or an emergency power port on the outside. We'll walk you through your lock's backup options during installation.
