Battery-powered keyless locks warn you with a low-battery alert well before they stop working, and most models let you swap the batteries from the outside without opening the door. Hardwired access-control systems are normally installed with a backup so a power cut does not lock you out. We confirm which backup your specific model has during the install.

Most of the time it can be repaired. The usual causes are dead batteries, a loose or interfered connection, faulty wiring, grime built up in the keypad or reader, or firmware that is out of date — all fixable on-site. Replacement is the better call when the internal parts are physically damaged or the model is too old to update.
